While people may be afraid to give out their credit card details online, the truth is that it is statistically much safer to use your credit card online than at a physical location. Online purchases are safer because your information is immediately encrypted that can only be decrypted by an authorized computer.
Safe and Secure Shopping
Ensuring the safety of your data and securing your payment information is of the utmost importance.
This page was designed to introduce you to the ways in which you can be assured your information is safe and help you shop with peace of mind online.
You may be assured that all of your personal and credit card information is safe with us. To extend that peace of mind while shopping with us here at SPRY SZN, we use a Secure Sockets Layer (or SSL, sometimes referred to as a secure certificate) to protect all transactions and personal information. No human will ever see your full credit card info. It is handled automatically by our secure system and all we ever see is your billing address and the last four digits of your credit card number.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY DATA IS SECURE?
There are a few ways and places you can check to verify the safety of your information:
- URL: In the URL section of 'secure' web pages (for example a login page or checkout page), check that the first part of the web address begins with "HTTPS", not just "HTTP". The addition of an "S" in the prefix denotes the connection is 'safe'.
- SITE NAME/DOMAIN: Some malicious actors will create spoofed sites that will redirect from a normally safe site that has been hacked; attempting to trick users in to logging in to their site to obtain sensitive data. Before entering any secure data, check the site's URL in the address bar. If it does not match, contact the business' customer service department. For example, if compromised, Shop.com may redirect to Sh0p.com or even a website like Shop.co. This also applies to email addresses as well. If the sender's address does not match the business address, it may not be legitimate.
- PADLOCK ICON: If a site features a closed padlock icon in the URL/address bar on sensitive pages (for example an account login page or checkout), this denotes a safe and secure connection.
- SSL CERTIFICATE: Most ecommerce sites are required to run with an SSL Certificate, which is designed to encrypt the information transmitted, making it harder for hackers to access. Further information about SSL certificates and what they are is below. SPRYSZN.com utilizes the latest SSL technology to ensure your shopping experience is a safe, secure, and positive one.
WHAT IS AN SSL CERTIFICATE?
Most online shops are using and are required to use an SSL certificate. SSL stands for "Secure Sockets Layer", though it is also sometimes called TLS, or "Transport Layer Security".
SSL is an encryption technology that works with all browsers like Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc. This is essentially a layer of complicated encryption that is applied to websites so that the data is transmitted in a coded format that makes it hard for hackers to access and read. The data must pass an internal check for the integrity of this encryption before it can be processed. If the check fails (due to data corruption, or any unexpected attempt to alter or capture the data), the encrypted data will not be exposed.
The SSL certificate applies the encryption described above to all website activity, including page and form submissions, financial transactions, and so on. This prevents data theft or other such attacks. It also ensures that no one but the site owner can ever view your personal information.
IS IT SAFER TO JUST MAKE CREDIT CARD PURCHASES IN PERSON THAN ONLINE?
Awareness plays a big role in shopping. Just like identifying unsafe signs while shopping online, these signs can also be identified with compromised card readers.
